How SEA-V collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you manage your maritime career with us.

This policy describes how SEA-V handles personal data on our platform. It is written for transparency. Before a full public launch, have it reviewed by a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.

01 Who we are

SEA-V is a digital platform for seafarers to manage career records, sea time, certificates, references, and related documents. For privacy enquiries or data subject requests, email admin@sea-v.com.

For UK GDPR / EU GDPR, SEA-V acts as the data controller for account and career data you provide. Supabase acts as a data processor hosting the database, authentication, and file storage.

02 What we collect

Depending on how you use SEA-V, we may process:

  • Account data — name, email address, login credentials (held by Supabase Auth)
  • Profile data — rank, nationality, location, availability, career overview, contact details you choose to save
  • Career records — vessels, sea time, navigation passages, tenders, onboard experience, achievements, hobbies, specialist qualifications
  • Documents — photos, PDFs, and attachments (certificates, references, payslips, vessel documents, etc.)
  • Technical data — browser type, IP address, and session information processed for security and operation
  • Local storage — limited app preferences in your browser (for example CV draft text and badge unlock state)

03 Sensitive and high-risk data

You may upload financial or identity-related documents (for example payslips, CoC scans, medical certificates). Payslips are private — they are never shown on your public profile and are stored in a separate private bucket with owner-only access.

Do not upload documents you are not entitled to store. You are responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of content you add to your account.

04 Why we use your data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To store and display your career records inside the app
  • To generate your CV and optional public profile
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse
  • To respond to support and data protection requests

Our likely lawful bases under UK/EU GDPR are contract (providing the service you signed up for) and legitimate interests (operating and securing the platform). Where required, we rely on consent — for example when you enable a public profile.

05 Public profile (your choice)

Public visibility is off by default. If you enable “Make my public profile visible”, selected career information may be viewed by anyone with your public link.

  • Shown when public: name, rank, career highlights, vessels, sea time summaries, approved achievements, verified references, published hobbies, and related attachments you have uploaded
  • Not shown publicly: email, phone, salary, passport/visa details, payslips, draft records, and tenders
  • You can turn public profile off at any time in Profile settings

06 Storage, security, and processors

Data is hosted on Supabase (PostgreSQL database, authentication, and private file storage). Files are stored under your user account folder and protected by row-level security policies.

We use HTTPS in production. Access to your data requires your login, except for information you deliberately make public via the public profile feature.

07 Retention

We keep your data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. If you request deletion, we will delete or anonymise your account data within a reasonable period, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain records.

08 Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access a copy of your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated records
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority

To exercise these rights, email admin@sea-v.com from your registered address. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

09 Cookies and browser storage

SEA-V uses essential session storage via Supabase Auth to keep you signed in, and may use localStorage for non-sensitive app preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can clear browser storage at any time, but you may need to sign in again.

10 International transfers

Supabase may process data in regions outside your country. Where required, appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) should be in place via your Supabase agreement.

11 Children

SEA-V is intended for professional seafarers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

12 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of SEA-V after changes means you accept the updated policy.
